From optical to electron microscopy, nonmagnetic microscopic analyses can reveal grain textures and microstructures that tell incredible stories about a rock’s formation and depositional history. These techniques are a powerful complement to nondestructive magnetic analyses, especially when combined with dissolution and extraction methods that target magnetic grains.
